Burundi is the mother country of the United Methodist Church (UMC)in the East Africa Annual Conference (EAAC). The church established roots in 1984 under the leadership of the late Bishop Alfred Ndoricimpa.

The church has since expanded to a total membership of 101,991 people across 247 churches. It has 10 districts with a pastoral team of 247 pastors.
